NC REALTORS® applauds Governor Cooper’s action in response to COVID-19

E.O. 121 allows real estate activity to continue during

Greensboro, North Carolina (March 27, 2020) — In response to Governor Roy Cooper’s issuance of Executive Order 121, NC REALTORS® President Maren Brisson-Kuester issued the following statement.

“On behalf of the more than 48,000 NC REALTORS® members throughout the state, we are extremely appreciative of Governor Cooper’s efforts,” said Maren Brisson-Kuester, 2020 NC REALTORS® President. “To date, the majority of local stay-at-home orders have designated real estate services as an essential business activity, so we were happy to see that the Governor chose to follow in that direction. We hope that the local governments with existing orders will make changes to reflect the Governor’s directives. Maintaining housing and shelter is of paramount importance always, but especially now. It is vital that individuals be allowed to complete transactions that they long-anticipated to be personally and economically essential to themselves and their families.”

As of the end of February, there are 26,000 “under contract” homes in North Carolina. That means 52,000 families have already made plans to move in or out of these houses; significant life changes even under normal circumstances. Additionally, an estimated $8 billion of their family finances are tied up in these moves during already very financially uncertain times.

“Even though NC REALTORS® members have been granted the ability to continue their work during this situation, it is imperative that they act in compliance with the health and safety guidelines outlined by federal, state, and local officials,” said Brisson-Kuester. “NC REALTORS® has been working to develop resources for members to assist them in conducting their business using digital and remote means. We will continue to provide guidance throughout these uncertain times.”
