NC REALTORS® Partners with NC Attorney General to combat opioid crisis

As evidenced by the daily news, the opioid epidemic across North Carolina and the United States seems to be getting worse as each day passes. While that may be true, there are efforts underway to combat the access that those who are affected have to addicting substances, like prescription drugs.

Last year, NC REALTORS® joined with the NC Attorney General’s Office, State Bureau of Investigation and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration to unveil new guidelines for real estate professionals focused on ways to limit access to prescription drugs during open houses. We also worked with multiple local associations to partner with local law enforcement to hold prescription drug take-back events. We know that numerous events were held across the state in 2018 and more are planned this year.

In 2019, NC Attorney General Josh Stein, in partnership with the NC Departments of Health and Human Services, Public Instruction, and Insurance launched More Powerful NC, a platform focused on overpowering North Carolina’s opioid epidemic from all sides. The platform provides links to addiction resources, drug take-back events, and much more. NC REALTORS® is proud to join with groups across the state as a partner in this effort.

We will continue to provide more information as the work of the More Powerful NC campaign continues.
