The North Carolina Zoo is the largest natural habitat zoo in the WORLD – offering the more than 1,800 animals in our care plenty of room to roam! Visit our North America section to watch our polar bears and seals swim in their chilled pools, view our endangered American red wolf puppies as they play, or go “under cover” to beat the heat and cold in our serene Aviary full of hundreds of exotic birds, and sunny Desert dome for a rare glimpse of tarantulas and komodo dragons! Visit our Africa section where elephants frolic in the pond, and chimpanzees and gorillas play, peek at the playful lemurs on Lemur Island, or get a closer look by feeding giraffes and taking an open-air safari bus tour of our rhino, antelope, and ostrich habitat! The Zoo is full of other exciting activities, including our seasonal Kaleidoscope Butterfly Garden, AirHike ropes course, Treehouse Trek, Kid Zone play area, endangered species carousel, and playgrounds.
