This Elective and Certificate Course will give you a greater understanding of the planning and zoning process so you can serve as both a trusted REALTOR® and a community advocate. To make this class especially relevant to our members, OBAR’s Government Affairs Director Donna Creef will join the session to provide local context and real examples from the Outer Banks. This course is an excellent way to prepare if you’re considering serving on OBAR’s Government Affairs Committee, applying for a local Planning Board, or even running for public office in your town.

Nate K. Johnson (AHWD®, ABR, C2EX, CIPS, CRS, GRI, PSA, SRES®) is 2024 Vice President of Advocacy for the National Association of REALTORS®.
Johnson has been helping people achieve their real estate goals for over two dozen years. He is President of The Real Estate Solutions Group at Redkey Realty Leaders, a full-service residential group in St. Louis. Besides representing buyers and sellers, he also leads a sales staff while overseeing daily operations for Real Estate Solutions.
An expert instructor and public speaker, Nate helps people become the best version of themselves, Nate teaches and speaks on a variety of other topics, including fair housing, Code of Ethics, business planning, and leadership.
At the national level, Nate has served on the NAR Board of Directors and held dozens of governance positions, including Chair for both the Sustainability Advisory Group and Smart Growth Advisory Board; and Committee Liaison for the Business Issues Policy, Conventional Financing and Policy, and Fair Housing Policy committees. In 2020, he served as Public & Federal Issues Liaison under President Vince Malta.
Additionally, Nate serves as President of the Board of Directors for the Metropolitan St. Louis Equal Housing Opportunity Council, which is working to end illegal housing discrimination in the metropolitan St. Louis area.
Cancellations: Cancellations may be processed online and will be accepted up to one (1) business day preceding each course. Course registration less a cancellation fee may apply. Refunds will not be granted to no-shows or last minute cancellations.
To cancel a class: Login to the NC REALTORS® website. Find your class under “Upcoming Events” on the Member Dashboard or by locating the class you want to cancel on the NC REALTORS® calendar. Under registration details, you will see an option to “Cancel”. On the following page, select “Submit Cancellation”.
NCR reserves the right to cancel/change any course at any time. If a course is canceled, you will be notified as soon as possible. You will receive either a full refund or, if rescheduled, you may transfer to the new date. NCR is not responsible for any out-of-pocket expenses (lodging, airfare, etc.) you may incur when a course is canceled or rescheduled.
