Beware of Imposters: Fake NC REALTORS® Account on Facebook
September is REALTOR® Safety Month, and it’s a good time to remember that safety isn’t just about showings and open houses, it also extends to your online presence. Recently, a fake Facebook profile using the name “NC Realtors” has appeared. This account copied posts directly from our official page, making it look legitimate when it is not. While we have reported it to Meta, it’s important for members to stay alert, as similar copycat accounts could appear in the future.
Here’s what you can do to protect yourself:
- Block the account in your messages to prevent unwanted contact.
- Report the profile as fake:
- On mobile: Tap See Options, then select Report Profile.
- On desktop: Click the three dots on the profile, then choose Report Page.
- Stay cautious: Always double-check before accepting friend requests or interacting with accounts that appear to represent NC REALTORS®. Our only official Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/ncrealtors.
- Learn more safety strategies directly from Tracey “the Safety Lady” Hawkins on September 8 during her upcoming Mobile Mondays session, where she’ll cover both online and in-person threats to REALTORS®. Join the Facebook group
Additional Online Safety Tips:
- Watch for red flags such as low friend counts or unusual messages.
- Never share personal information, financial details, or login credentials via Messenger or social media.
- Enable two-factor authentication on your accounts for an added layer of security.
Your safety matters — both offline and online. Thank you for helping us protect our REALTOR® community.
