License Status & Payment of Commissions

Q: I’m thinking about taking a break from real estate and placing my license on inactive status with the North Carolina Real Estate Commission. I have a few outstanding  deals that are under contract, but not yet closed. Can my firm still pay me a commission for those deals once they close, even though my license might be on inactive status  at the time of payment?

A: Yes. Even though an agent’s license might later be on inactive status, an agent may continue to receive compensation from a former broker for services performed while  the agent’s license was on active status in that broker’s employ.
